Car Tips for a Great Summer

At Autos By Nelson, we’re excited for summer. But did you know, that the change in weather and summer temperatures could mean some more maintenance on your car? We’ve compiled a short list of tips to help keep your car running all summer long.

5 Summer Maintenance Tips

  1. Test the Battery:Your car’s battery can be affected by changes in weather. Bring your battery into our service center, it’ll only take a couple of minutes to check.
  2. Check Your Wipers:Winter can cause a lot of wear and tear on your windshield wipers. Be sure to check and change your wipers as need be to ensure they work as effectively as possible.
  3. Flush Your Cooling System: It’s recommended that you flush your cooling system about once every two years. This can vary from model to model and make to make, so be sure you read over your owner’s manual.
  4. Check Your Tires: Temperatures in Virginia can fluctuate over 40 degrees between winter and summer. And while it is nice getting out of those low temperatures, that fluctuation can be rough on your tires. While colder weather typically causes low tire pressure, the opposite goes for summer. Check your tire pressure to make sure it remains where it should
  5. Check your Engine: We tried to save the most important for last on our list. Changing your car’s oil after winter is an important part of summer maintenance. It’s possible your car may not need a change, but when it comes to the engine, you’re better safe than sorry. Most manufactures recommend changing the oil every 10,000 miles or 12 months – whichever comes first.

We’re all looking forward to summer, but be sure to keep your car in mind during these hot months!
